5 Signs It’s Time For a Career Change

Success Business Woman - Career Change – Career Jump – Change Job - Job Search – Next Job – Dream Job.

Did you realize the average American worker will change careers 5 to 7 times in their life? While changing careers may be a bit overwhelming, often times it is the best course of action.

Disillusionment and frustration are just some of the most common reasons people cite for their sudden career change. If your existing employer isn’t using state of the art tools provided by a company like Humanity, it can make for a very long and stressful workday.

Usually, you will notice a number of warning signs when a career change is imminent. The following are some of the signs you may notice when it is time to take your talents into a new industry.

1. A Regular Case of Sunday-Night Dread

Do you utterly dread the end of the weekend and the beginning of your work week? If you routinely experience a case of Sunday night dread, then chances are it is time to think about looking for a new career. The last thing anyone wants is to have a sick feeling in the pit of their stomach caused by a bad work situation.

Other signs your body may give you when it is time for a new career are things like constant exhaustion, the inability to focus on your existing job and constant body aches. Instead of ignoring these warning signs, you need to notice them and find a way to fix your issues.

2. You Are Only Working Your Existing Job For the Money

Making money is an essential part of paying for things like a new home and a reliable vehicle. However, if you are only working your existing job for the great pay, this will get old after a while.

There are countless individuals who are utterly miserable at work but choose to stay for the paycheck. Instead of wasting your time and energy on a job you aren’t happy with, now is the time to find the right career path. Doing things like buying expensive items to cover up the discontent you have is a tell-tale sign that your existing career is not where you need to be.

While your new career may not pay as much initially, the peace of mind and happiness it can provide will make the pay cut well worth it.

3. Constant Day Dreaming About a Different Career

Are you spending the majority of your work day dreaming about a different career? If you have a specific idea about what type of career you want to pursue, find out what it will take to land your dream job. Reading an online lifestyle magazine like this could be helpful.

If your new job will require you to get a college degree, start by going in for a meeting with a counselor at a local institution of higher learning. These professionals will be able to give you a breakdown of what you have to do to obtain the degree you are after.

Often times, you will need to go to school for a few years to land a new degree. During this time, you can start to plot out how to transition into a new career once you have obtained the degree you are after. The time and effort you invest in bettering yourself will definitely pay off in the long run.

4. Job Envy Can Be a Powerful Motivator

Being envious about the jobs your friends and family have is another warning sign that a career change is needed. While envy can be a great motivator when it comes to making a move into a new job, it can also make you an unhappy person.

The longer you look on with envy at a friend’s work situation, the more disgruntled you will become at your existing job. Instead of letting this type of negativity creep into your way of thinking, try to keep a positive outlook. While this may be a bit difficult to do, it is worth the effort considering how much happier it can make you. Telling yourself that your dream job is out there and actually working to find it can keep you motivated.

5. You Aren’t Pursuing Your Passions

If you are passionate about the work you do on a daily basis, you will be a much happier person. Instead of working day in and day out at a job you are not passionate about, you need to pursue a career you will content with.

Before deciding what industry you want to work in, sit down and make a list of your passions. With this list, you can start to narrow down the list of jobs available to you.

By taking the time to do a great deal of research, you can easily figure out what type of job you are best suited for.
