This new killer swine flu virus is a never-before-seen virus in human beings that can cause a serious situation with “pandemic potential.” Basically Swine flu is a respiratory disease that infects pigs due to type A influenza virus that don’t have the potential to spread from pigs to human beings in normal conditions. But to the worse side of it, WHO has announced the strain has reached Phase-4 which means the virus can transmit not only from pigs to people but also from person to person. The main reason which can make virus spread easily between humans is the little natural immunity against this new virus.
As the roots of this virus are found in Swine population, people who work with swine and poultry, especially people with intense exposures, are at risk of infection from these animals if the animals carry a strain that can infect humans.
Symptoms of Swine Flu
Most of the symptoms are similar to that of a regular seasonal flu that includes fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Some people have also reported diarrhea and vomiting associated with swine flu.

- As there are chances of spreading this Flu viruses when people with influenza cough or sneeze, everyone should make a special effort to avoid contact with potential virus carriers.
- Those who travel abroad have to be alert about the epidemic situation. Especially those who travel to California, Kansas, New York, Ohio and Texas have to be very cautions avoiding crowded groups because confirmed human cases of the swine flu virus are found in these cities.
- Cover your mouth and nose with tissues when you sneeze or cough and dispose them properly. Practice good personal hygiene and make sure you use surgical masks and gloves and other sanitary products when you are stepping out of your home.
- Better stay at home if you are sick and take the advice of your physician if illness continues.
